In an era of competitive gaming and technology advancements, players seek every possible edge to outperform the competition. With the recent launch of the high-performance Model O 2 PRO and Model D 2 PRO 4K/8KHz Editions, these gaming mice set a new benchmark in the realm of polling rates. In this article, we delve deep into the benefits of higher polling rates and the requirements needed to fully harness these capabilities.

What Is Polling Rate?

Before diving into the benefits, it's essential to understand what polling rate is. In simple terms, polling rate refers to how often the mouse tells the computer where it is and what it’s doing.

Most gaming mice poll at 1,000 Hz, which communicates movements and clicks to the PC up to 1,000 times per second, or every 1 millisecond. However, Model O 2 PRO and Model D 2 PRO 4K/8KHz Editions raise the bar with their ability to poll wirelessly at 2,000 Hz and 4,000 Hz, while also offering a staggering 8,000 Hz in wired mode.

Why is Higher Polling "Better"?

In this section, we'll cover all the advantages of higher polling rates, and how they can help boost your gaming performance.

1.Tracking Accuracy

A higher polling rate offers better tracking accuracy. When a mouse communicates its position more frequently, the on-screen cursor mirrors these movements closer to real-time. So when you make that swift flick shot in an FPS game, the cursor will seamlessly reflect your movements with virtually no lag.

2.Aiming Precision

With a more frequent update, you achieve a near-perfect 1:1 correlation between your hand's movement and the cursor's position on screen. This precision becomes crucial when engaging in games with constant aiming and firing, where a slight miss can cost you the game.

3.Smoothness

No one likes a jittery cursor. High polling rates minimize micro-stutters, especially noticeable on high-resolution monitors with higher refresh rates. Think of it like a film projector: if a projector displays frames of a moving dot every 5 seconds, the dot's movements will appear choppy. If it displays frames of the moving dot every 5 milliseconds, the dot's movement will look much more fluid.

4.Reduce Click Latency

A high polling rate not only reduces the tracking delay but also diminishes input delay. In gaming terms, it ensures that when you click to shoot, the action registers and reflects on-screen almost instantly, making for a more responsive gameplay experience.

How to Get the Most Out of Higher Polling Rates

Now that we understand what polling rates are and their advantages, let’s delve into the system requirements. We’ll also cover potential drawbacks when requirements are not met, and how to fine-tune your settings so that you can still make the most of a higher polling rate. In this section, we'll cover polling rate best practices, including:

  • – Ensure a Strong Wireless Connection (Desk Setup)
  • – Update to the Latest Windows 11 Version
  • – Check Your Computer’s CPU
  • – Check Your Monitor’s Refresh Rate
  • – Check Your Game’s Settings
  • – Disable other Apps and Resources (if necessary)

4,000 Hz Polling

To take full advantage of 4,000 Hz polling, we recommend a PC with at least a 9th gen Intel i5 processor (or equivalent AMD CPU). In terms of your monitor, you should have one with a 144 Hz refresh rate or faster. You can enjoy this setting with both 2.4GHz wireless connectivity or in wired mode. It’s important to note that higher polling rates require more power consumption from your mouse. In the case of the Model O 2 PRO and D 2 PRO, with 4KHz polling, the battery life will only last up to 35 hours (as opposed to 80 hours with 1KHz). But that shouldn’t be a problem because you can still play while you charge!

8,000 Hz Polling:

For 8,000 Hz polling, we recommend a 9th gen Intel i7 processor (or equivalent AMD CPU). As for your monitor, it should have at least a 240 Hz refresh rate or faster. The 8KHz polling rate is only available in wired mode. What’s more is that the included Ascended cord with all Glorious mice is ultra-flexible, which gives you a near-wireless feel.

Not sure about your system requirements? Need troubleshooting?

While it's crucial to ensure your system aligns with these requirements for the best performance, it may be possible you aren’t completely sure about your PC’s specs, or you might encounter some issues along the way. If in doubt, opting for a 2,000 Hz setting offers a reliable balance, providing a significant boost in your gameplay without overwhelming your system. Setting your mouse to a 2,000 Hz polling rate is always a safe choice since it pushes twice the amount of data than normal, but prevents potential jittering or less consistent frame rates. Therefore, it mitigates possible performance issues while still boosting your performance for a better competitive edge.

Bottom Line

The Model O 2 PRO and Model D 2 PRO 4K/8KHz Editions are not just about higher numbers. They represent a tangible improvement in gaming performance. By understanding and leveraging these advancements, you position yourself at the forefront of the competitive arena, ready to take on challenges with unparalleled precision and responsiveness. Happy gaming!
