Is KeyForge: Call of the Archons the next big card game? We'd like to think so at this point. Coming directly from the creator of Magic: The Gathering, Richard Garfield, KeyForge is all about battling it out using unique decks that can never be repeated.
That's right, there are no booster packs or additional cards that you can buy online this time. The game focuses on using decks with unique names, consisting of 36 cards, all of which will have a unique design. This way, you can rest assured you will never face an opponent playing with the same deck as you.
The first set of KeyForge is expected to offer more than 104,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible decks!
You gotta admit, that number seems out of this world. And now, directly from the game's official website, here are a few excerpts that will tell you more about it.
Every deck contains a full play experience with a deck that cannot be altered, meaning it's ready to play right out of the box. Not only does this remove the need for deckbuilding or boosters, it also creates a new form of gameplay with innovative mechanics that challenges you to use every card in your deck to find the strongest and most cunning combinations. It is not the cards themselves that are powerful, but rather the interactions between them—interactions that can only be found in your deck...
Within each of your Archon Decks in KeyForge: Call of the Archons, you will find creatures from three of the Crucible’s seven great Houses, each with a unique culture, history, and skill set that makes them exceptional...
KeyForge will have a dedicated website and app, and should be released in the fourth quarter of 2018. Of course, you can pre-order it if you want.
So, what do you think? Are games like Magic: The Gathering getting some very serious competition soon? We leave the answer to you.
